Healthy and Ready To Learn

Our Mission

The Kurka Children’s Health Fund is committed to helping students of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) be ready to learn by improving the health status of its most vulnerable children and youth.

What We Do:

Kurka believes equitable healthcare is essential to a student’s ability to thrive in the classroom. In the
aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires, Kurka has played a critical role in helping LAUSD students
whose families lost homes or employment and lack insurance for vital services. The organization is
currently providing eyeglasses—replacing those destroyed in the fires and covering those not covered
by insurance—as well as urgent dental care to ensure students can see clearly, eat without pain, and
stay focused in school.

Many families are hesitant to seek help, especially those wary of formal systems. Kurka’s direct
support removes barriers to care, allowing students to maintain their health and academic success
despite the challenges they face. As needs grow, LAUSD has turned to Kurka to help provide medical
and other critical resources, ensuring students remain healthy, present, and prepared to learn.
